Job Description: Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation's 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Position Summary:

The successful candidate must be able to manage diverse and complex programs, interact effectively with all internal and external constituencies of the college, and have a proven track record as a team leader as well as a demonstrated ability to advance the goals of a comprehensive community college.

The Vice President (VP) serves as the chief academic officer, reports directly to the president, and serves on the President's Staff as a member of the executive leadership team with the Vice President for Financial & Administrative Services, the Vice President for Workforce, Economic and Community Development, and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Effectiveness and Campus Life with responsibility for overall college planning, budgeting, staffing, organization, and direction. Reporting to this position are three division deans (Academic Success and College Transfer, STEM-Health and Applied Programs, and Technology), the Director of Enrollment Management, an Executive Assistant, Advisor, and the Coordinator of Admissions and Accelerated Learning.

The function of the VP is to serve as the Chief Academic Officer, reporting directly to the President and serving on the President's staff as one of five members of the Executive Leadership Team. Duties include oversight of planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of all credit courses and programs, academic support activities, and student services activities at the college. This includes the preparation, management, and analysis of instructional, student services, and selected grant budgets. Additionally, the VP works with the Virginia Community College System, local economic development groups, public schools, state and local agencies, other higher education institutions, and other stakeholders to fulfill the mission of the institution. The VP will apply targeted completion and retention strategies to strengthen enrollment in the service area

 

Hiring Range: Minimum $101,898 annually, based on qualifications and experience; plus excellent benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution
  • Management and administrative experience
  • Strategic planning and budgeting experience
  • Accreditation and curriculum development experience

 

KSA's and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

  • Experience working directly with faculty and student services
  • Collaborative leadership style
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art teaching and learning techniques, including technological applications and distance learning
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience/ability in the knowledge of the theory and practices in the fields of science, health science and applied technologies
  • Community college administration experience
  • 5 years of supervisory experience
  • 5 years of administrative experience, preferably at a community college
