Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

This position will provide, through professional practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, primary health care services for students, emphasizing promotion of health and prevention of disease. This position will also incorporate medical services within the professional parameters of certified Nurse Practitioner (Family or Adult) or Physician Assistant through collaboration with Student Health Services physicians.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in nursing or health related field; bachelor's degree in nursing or health related field with related experience equivalent to a master's degree may be substituted. Completion of an educational program leading toward licensure and certification as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Licensed and certified, or eligible for licensing/certification, as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Eligible for prescriptive authority or licensed to prescribe as a nurse practitioner in the State of Virginia. For physician assistant, must meet qualifications for approval of prescriptive authority per Virginia Board of Medicine regulations. Knowledge and understanding of the scope of practice of the primary health care nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Demonstrated clinical skills to provide acute, chronic and preventive health care. Demonstrated ability to provide primary health care in an interdisciplinary collaborative setting. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in a primary care setting. Experience in a university Student Health Service. Experience with electronic health records.
