Harry W. Werner Endowed Professorship in Equine Health and Welfare

The Department of Clinical Studies - New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for the Harry W. Werner Endowed Professorship in Equine Health and Welfare. This unique faculty position provides the opportunity for an outstanding candidate to play a transformative role in the field of equine health and welfare. The endowed chair will be part of the Standing Faculty in the tenure track and expected to establish an exemplary research program as well as contribute to developing training programs in animal welfare. Individuals at all academic ranks with established or promising equine research programs in a variety of areas are encouraged to apply. These areas of focus may include, but are not limited to, animal welfare science, behavior science, epidemiology, husbandry/training, infectious disease, metabolic disorders, or pain assessment and management. The ideal candidate will be working at the interface of equine health and welfare and have a VMD / DVM or equivalent veterinary degree, or a PhD, or preferably both. The ideal candidate also will have an established publication record in his or her field of expertise, demonstrated teaching excellence, and have shown success in obtaining extramural research funding.
The Werner Professorship will be based at Penn Vet's New Bolton Center Campus which is located on 700 pastoral acres in scenic Chester County Pennsylvania. Our Large Animal Hospital provides an internationally renowned standard of care and enjoys one of the largest caseloads of any academic large animal hospital in the country. New Bolton Center also has a thriving research community encompassing a variety of topics relevant to the position such as animal behavior, comparative orthopedics, infectious disease, laminitis, nutrition, pharmacology, reproduction, and animal welfare.
