Overview

The Office of Human Resources (HR) is looking for a talented experienced individual to fill the highly visible and responsible leadership position of Assistant Vice President for Human Capital Management Systems (AVP). Reporting to the vice president for human resources, this position is a member of a high-performing leadership team and manages a staff of 12. This role oversees HCMS operations across the University with a customer-focused approach; assesses and delivers responsive and innovative HR systems and services that support and foster collaboration between HR and University departments; and provides data and reports for the University to run efficiently.

Responsibilities

The AVP emphasizes, encourages, and delivers excellence and innovation in service delivery, communications, vendor management, fiscal responsibility, system administration, and problem solving. This position interacts with other campus leaders as a thought partner to strategize and advise on various technology challenges for today and the future, including but not limited to information security, metrics and reporting, and sharing data and utilization. Other responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with HR senior leadership and functional units to contribute to HR's overall agenda.
  • Assess the current technology, ensure it has the capacity, sophistication, and scale to adapt to the needs of the organization, and to recommend and lead new technology initiatives.
  • Ensure information security, privacy standards, data accuracy, and data integrity are monitored and audited across all HR-related enterprise systems; partner with the University's chief information security officer to stay current with and anticipate future information security best practices and policies.
  • Identify and lead related change management efforts internally within HR and externally with departments when implementing systems changes.
  • Strengthen cross functionality communication and interoffice collaboration and data integrity.
  • Keep current on legal developments and industry trends to anticipate impact on supporting technologies; maintain positive relationships with colleagues at peer institutions to keep abreast of and/or benchmark new policies and practices.


Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible leadership positions in technology resources in human resources management systems and/or similar best practices “mission driven” environments with a strong customer service philosophy.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required; master's degree and project management certification desirable.
  • Evident relationship development and management skills gained in complex, disseminated, and collaborative environments; ability to influence across lines of authority and quickly develop respect and integrity.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including proven ability to engage highly motivated staff, assess performance and set appropriate goals, create strong office morale, and foster teamwork, diversity and inclusion, innovation, risk taking, continuous learning, and a respectful workplace.
  • Significant background in PeopleSoft or a similar HCM system, the latest technologies used to advance human resources functions, and a successful track record administering them within similar settings.
  • Experience in dealing with and strong affinity for addressing current and future challenges related to information security of restricted and confidential information; data management, including reporting and metrics; and relevant policies, procedures, and roles at both the department and enterprise level.
  • Experience with purchasing and contract negotiations, project budgets, and vendor management.
  • Strong writing, speaking, and presentation abilities skills.
  • Solid analytical ability, judgment, and creative thinking skills to solve complex issues, which may include building consensus through brokering and facilitating effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated project management and facilitation skills in a complex environment with multiple and competing priorities and deadlines.
  • A passion for integrating human resources strategies into the University's core objectives.
  • A high degree of personal integrity, ethics, and initiative.
  • A sense of and appreciation for humor and fun.
