Postdoctoral Associate

Position Summary:
- Synthesis and thermal processing of polymers and block copolymers.
- Synthesis and self-assembly of plasmonic nanoparticles.
- Processing and characterization of carbon fibers.
- Property measurements with mechanical, thermal, and morphological tools.
- Nanoporous structure characterization; Mechanical properties of high performance composites; and/or electrochemistry analysis for battery, fuel cell, or supercapacitor.
- Collect experimental data and analyze data;
- Prepare reports for funding agency and submit manuscripts based on work to peer reviewed journals and present results at national conferences.
- Work with faculty supervisor and graduate students.
- Take the initiative in finding solutions to scientific problems that arise on a day-to-day research.
- Pursue research goals with routine consultation, but limited supervision.
- Supervise/train undergraduate or graduate students in laboratory procedures.
- Assist in project design, execution, and interpretation of research projects to gain practical experience in the field.
- Prepare professional presentations, professional reports, and publications.
- Engage in collaborative work with peers to achieve research objectives.

Required Qualifications:
- Recent doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields with strong nanomaterials background; completed by the time of appointment.
- Strong polymer chemistry and mechanical property analysis skills
- Strong background in polymer fiber, carbon fiber, and polymer composite
- Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong technical writing and oral English skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred research experience in more than one of the following: polymer synthesis, polymer fiber processing, polymer film processing, carbon fiber, polymer composite, self-assembly, electrospinning, mechanical property characterization, nanopore characterization, chemical vapor deposition, and electrochemistry analysis.
- Preferred instruments skills include DMA , TGA , DSC , GPC , AFM , SEM , TEM , and SAXS .
- Evidence of good project management.
- Evidence of developing publications based on research.
- Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Creativity, independence and high motivation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel in the organization.
