Job Description
The Scholarly Communications Librarian will promote the university's institutional repository. Plan, implement, and assess FGCU's scholarly communications program. Partner with FGCU faculty and staff to collect, describe, and make accessible the university's intellectual assets. Provide outreach and consultations on depositing content, publishing options, author rights, copyright, and Open Access. Develop tools, guides, web resources, and services. Creates metadata for institutional repository and digital collections. Engages in service and scholarship; participates in assessment and continuous improvement of operations and services; and helps to shape department policy, goals, and procedures.

Required Qualifications
MLS / MLIS degree from an ALA -accredited program or foreign equivalent.
Experience working with institutional repositories and/or scholarly communications issues.
Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the proven ability to develop and foster communication and teamwork.
Knowledge in copyright law as it relates to fair use and author's rights, public access, Open Access, new modes of scholarly communication, intellectual property and academic publishing.
Working knowledge of rights management and academic publishing practices, and familiarity with one or more major descriptive metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD , METS , MIX , MODS , PREMIS , or others).

Preferred Qualifications
Experience planning and delivering workshops, presentations, or classes on scholarly communications, copyright, authors' rights, open access, ORCID , and fair use in an academic setting.
Demonstrated marketing and outreach skills to discover and recruit university scholarly materials for archiving in the institutional repository.
Experience with metadata creation, including XML -based and bibliographic standards (e.g. EAD , Dublin Core, MODS , METS , LCSH , MARC21, LC Classification, etc.)
Experience working with Islandora.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of institutional repository trends and best practices.
Knowledge of the scholarly publishing landscape, including legal issues, Open Access, and author rights.
Knowledge of and experience with copyright in the academic setting.
Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and analytical ability.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
Ability to work on simultaneous workflows. Evidence of detailed data analysis and reporting skills.
Evidence of successful project management skills.

Promotes the University's institutional repository and works closely with the Head of Archives, Special Collections and Digital Initiatives to create and implement a sustainable scholarly communications program.
Educates and trains campus partners to collect, describe, and make accessible the university's intellectual assets.
Develops tools, guides, web resources, and services.
Creates metadata for institutional repository and digital collections.
Provides outreach and consultations on depositing content, publishing options, author rights, copyright, and Open Access.
Participates in faculty governance and engages in scholarly activity.
Participates in assessment and continuous improvement of operations and services.
Helps shape department policy, goals, and procedures.
As members of the University's faculty, librarians are expected to participate in faculty governance and engage in scholarly activity. Some evening and week-end hours may be required.
