Telecommunications Engineer


Brief Summary:

The Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, availability, and reliability of the campus-wide telecommunications system and campus communications infrastructure. This includes the video teleconferencing services, the integration of the legacy telephone CBX with Unified Messaging Voice Mail and VoIP systems.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall administration of multiple platforms related to voice, video, emergency alert communications ensuring reliability and availability with minimum impact.
  • Coordinate, review, and oversee all telecommunications moves, adds, and changes in both legacy and VoIP phone systems.
  • Provide problem resolution, management, and preventative maintenance of the telecommunications systems.
  • Maintain telephone call accounting and database systems. Design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and modification of computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications.
  • Perform infrastructure design, planning, implementation, testing, administration, and maintenance of new technology, such as, the VoiceRite voice messaging system and Unified Communications Cisco VoIP telephone systems including end to end video conferencing services and technical support to end users.
  • Analyze configuration and performance of hardware and software related to providing and supporting voice, voice messaging, unified messaging, and video-conferencing services to end users.
  • Investigate and recommend improvements to enhance technical capabilities of the systems and reduce operating costs. Provide recommendations for planning and expansion of the campus network.
  • Responsible for network convergence initiatives, system integrations, and new technology and product evaluations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology required; Master's preferred. Minimum of 5-8 years of related experience. Experience with Banner and Microsoft Office Suite required. Must be able to work effectively as a team player and have solid written and verbal communication skills.
