Brief Summary:
The Research Services Librarian provides research services to faculty and students both individually and in group settings in multiple formats at multiple locations. Work schedule during academic year*: Saturday 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Sunday 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Tuesday 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm. * Hours will be adjusted during breaks and intersessions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides research services by:
- Assisting patrons with reference queries
- Instructing patrons in use of library resources and online library system
- Conducting online and other database searches
- Directing patrons to appropriate service points
- Participating in Interlibrary Loan activity
- Scheduling sessions with faculty
- Compiling statistics and reporting activities to the Associate Librarian, Research Services and College Archivist
- Developing new course and subject specific Research Tools such as Pathfinders
- Participating in the training and mentoring of student staff members
- Evaluating and recommending new titles or withdrawal of titles
Participates in the professional work of the Library by:
- Assisting in the discussion and formulation of library policies and procedures and in problem resolution
- Cooperating with other librarians to provide service and assistance according to library objectives
- Monitoring developments in librarianship and higher education through attendance of meetings and workshops, membership in professional associations, and reading professional literature
Qualifications:
An MLS Degree from an ALA-accredited library school and some experience teaching information literacy required. Reference and public services experience in an academic library or equivalent with database searching capability is required. Must be familiar with current developments in providing instructional services. Clear written and oral communication skills also required.
