Job Description: Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation's 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Position Summary: Patrick Henry Community College is seeking a professional and team player committed to the mission of the comprehensive community college and experienced in working with a diverse student population, including adult learners, at-risk students and dual enrollment high school students. The successful candidate will be dedicated to academic excellence and continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning.

Primary responsibilities involve teaching and student advisement. Teaching schedules normally include day and evening classes and may include weekend and/or off-campus work. Additional responsibilities include such duties as promoting the program, office hours, committee work, course and curriculum planning, coordinate lab and field experience by planning and evaluating the practical learning experience of the students, and mentoring adjunct faculty. In addition, candidates must work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse educational environment, as well as facilitate student learning through in-class and out-of-class activities. The incorporation of computers and other technologies is expected in instructional methods. Ability to teach 18 hours per semester. The teaching field will involve the field of Precision Machining.

 

Minimum: $42,501 plus excellent benefits package; salary is dependent upon education and experience.

This is a restricted 9-month teaching faculty position. A new contract can be offered for the next academic year at the sole discretion of the college and in consideration of the college's needs at that time.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma, Precision Machining Technology diploma (or equivalent) and significant related occupational experience; the ability to manage a supply budget, maintain accurate inventory records and order supplies and equipment using proper state procurement procedures; and a commitment to the community college mission.

KSA's and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (oral and written communication), as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds
  • Technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources


Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience at the community college level; demonstrated experience in curriculum and course design and development; demonstrated ability to work with a widely diverse faculty, staff and student population; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; experience or proficiency in the following:

  • Operation and G-code programming of CNC lathes and milling machines with Haas and Fanuc controllers
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, AutoDesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Pro-E and Feature-CAM software
  • Proficient with manual lathes and vertical milling machines
  • Experience with manual and CNC surface grinders and OD/ID grinders
  • Experience with programming, set-up and operation of Wire & Sinker EDM machines
  • Experience with LEAN Manufacturing practices
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Experience with fixture design
  • Knowledge of advanced tooling and machining practices
