Reporting Relationships
Reports to: 
General supervision is received from the Coordinator, Truck Driver Training Program.
Supervision Exercised: None.

Job Summary 
Provide a variety of teaching/learning activities that prepare students for the class A-commercial driver’s license (CDL) examination and an entry-level position in the trucking industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Related duties may be assigned.

  • Teach classroom portion of the Truck Driver Training Program, including permits, logbooks and trip planning.
  • Teach hands on portion of the Truck Driver Training Program, including backing, shifting, and behind the wheel training.
  • Maintain student files in compliance with ICCB and IL Secretary of State standards.
  • Maintain Truck Driver Training Program equipment.
  • Monitor inventory of training supplies.
  • Train new consultants to be effective instructors.
  • Evaluate and grade students throughout the program.
  • Maintain relationships with employers in the trucking industry.
  • Assist in the development of new programs and changes to existing programs.
  • Provide maintenance on equipment in emergency situations.
  • Able to work on an on-call bases if the enrollment requires.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
  • Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Possess a class CDL-A driver’s license and a current Department of Transportation medical certificate. Over the road experience, clean driving record, a minimum of 5 years and some training experience is a plus.
