Director, Major Gifts

Job Description
The Director of Major Gifts develops, expands, and maintains a large portfolio of up to 150 potential and current donor prospects. The Director works collaboratively with University leadership to fund high priority projects and programs related to the University's mission and assists the Foundation Board of Directors and high-level community leaders to build and maintain relationships for potential philanthropic support.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Four years of full time professional work experience in fundraising, advancement, development, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated success with major gift fundraising in higher education or in Southwest Florida.
Experience in identifying funding donor sources.
Experience using fund raising software, particularly Raiser's Edge.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, best practices, trends, and legal constraints of fundraising and major gift solicitation within an institution of higher education.
Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, standards and procedures pertinent to successful operations.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to be a self-starter with documented results in building new programs and working simultaneously on a variety of projects.
Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.
Ability to exercise professionalism, discretion, and good judgment at all times and in all contexts and maintain client confidentiality.
Ability to collect, organize, analyze and present information in a meaningful manner.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, donors, and volunteers.
Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
Ability to travel locally and throughout the state.

Salary Range
$75,000 - $95,000

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Develops, cultivates, expands, and maintains a portfolio of between 100-150 major gift prospects. Maintains all necessary documentation for prospective and current donors as necessary and updates donor information in database.
•Identifies, qualifies, solicits, and stewards major gift donors in the $25,000 to $1,000,000 range for priority projects of the University.
•Prepares major gift proposals, solicitation letters, and other cultivation and informational material for prospects and donors.
•Conducts personal visits each month to foster relationships with prospective donors and current donors for the purposes of identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting leadership gifts and to convey the vision of the University.
•Establishes relationships and maintains frequent contact with local professionals such as estate and gift planners, attorneys, financial planners, accountants, and trust officers.
•Initiates and facilitates community gifts from corporations and corporate foundations.
•Works with the Foundation Board of Directors and community leaders to build and maintain relationships for potential philanthropic support.
•Works with university leadership at the highest levels to fund significant projects and programs related to the University's mission.
•Attends related advancement events in support of the department.
