Professional Expert POOL - Deckhand & Steward


Definition

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill Professional Expert assignments on an as-needed basis.

Under general supervision, the Professional Expert provides assistance and support in accordance with assignments and directions from the supervisor.

DECKAND
Part-time position aboard a 90-foot high-end yacht, chartering to small groups locally, including weekends to Catalina. Seeking person with professional appearance and attitude. Previous experience aboard large yacht preferred. Duties include operation of safety systems, line handling, tender launching, windlass operation, watch standing, cleaning, serving guests. USCG certified vessel, pre-employment drug testing required. Excellent pay & tips, respectful work environment.

STEWARD/STEWARDESS
Part-time position aboard a 90-foot high-end yacht, chartering to small groups locally, including weekend to Catalina. Seeking person with professional appearance and attitude. Must have experience in high-level service to guests. Duties include meal and drink service, stateroom make up, assisting a cook, basic deck work and cleaning. USCG certified vessel, pre-employment drug testing required. Excellent pay & tips, respectful work environment.

Conditions of Employment
This is a professional expert position. The District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate this position based upon available funds. The normal hours of work will be 8:00 am - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. However, some flexibility such as evenings and weekends will be required to meet the needs of the department. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

SELECTION PROCEDURES :

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  1. Lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  2. Work requires walking, standing on feet for prolonged periods and good manual dexterity to step on and off boats.
  3. Employees are expected to work in hot and cold temperature extremes.
  4. Employees may also be required to have skin contact with detergents, abrasives, cleaning solvents and disinfectants.
  5. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
