Assistant Professor/Professional Lecturer of Communication/Sports Communication


Brief Summary:

The Department of Communication of the School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or a Professional Lecturer (non-tenure track) of sports communication with an emphasis in broadcast journalism.

The Department of Communication, one of five academic units in the School of Communication and the Arts, offers the BA degree in Advertising, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, and Sports Communication, and two online MA programs, one with a specialization in Organizational Communication and Leadership and one in Integrated Marketing Communication.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The qualified candidate will be able to teach courses in sports communication and broadcast journalism, such as sports broadcasting, sports reporting, broadcast news writing and broadcast news production, and other courses in the candidates area of expertise. Ideal candidates may also have expertise in sports public relations. The candidate may help develop new courses in sports communication for traditional and online instruction, and convert existing courses, where applicable, for online instruction. Tenure track candidates will conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate's area of expertise, leading to tenure and promotion. Non-tenure track candidates will be expected to remain professionally active. Engage in academic advising, service to the institution, and to the candidate's academic discipline. Candidates will have the opportunity to take advantage of opportunities in the Marist College Center for Sports Communication, which hosts a series of high profile events, creates professional sports media, and engages in a range of research projects while maintaining relationships with several external partners in the sports and media landscape.


Qualifications:

Qualified tenure track candidates will hold the doctoral degree in journalism, communication, or a related field at the time of the appointment, and possess a record of teaching, scholarship/creativity, and service commensurate with the appointment. ABD candidates may also be considered. Professional experience in sports broadcasting is particularly desirable. Non-tenure track candidates will possess significant work history in sports broadcasting. Previous teaching experience is a plus.
