Job Summary
Perform complex accounting and financial reporting functions in accordance to GAAP, GASB, FASB and ICCB for the College and grants. Be a key resource person for daily financial accounting issues. Assist in research and implementation of newly issued accounting regulations. Manage and report Unclaimed Property. Assist with coordination and preparation of annual external audit. Achieve and maintain a thorough operating knowledge in areas of assigned responsibility as detailed below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Related duties may be assigned.

  • Perform monthly, quarterly and annual general ledger reconciliations; such as, cash, investments, receivables, payables and accruals in a routine and timely manner.
  • Assist in preparing month-end, quarter-end and fiscal year-end financial statements for the college and grants.
  • Assist in preparing assigned schedules for the annual external audit for both the college and the Foundation.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve any discrepancies relating to assigned banking, investment, audit, and accounting issues.
  • Provide assistance to internal and external customers regarding financial accounting and follow up on any inquiries from such customers.
  • Assist with database for Unclaimed Property and ensure compliance with State agencies. 
  • Assist in formulating or improving accounting policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and demonstrate a working knowledge of GAAP, GASB, FASB and ICCB guidelines related to the areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Assist in research and implementation of new regulations and pronouncements.
  • Prepare various analyses, ad-hoc reports, and reconciliations upon request.
  • Serve on appropriate college committees.
  • Assist in the responsibility for financial accounting operations in the absence of the Director, Financial Services.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset Inventory.
    • Identify and capitalize purchases to be classified as capital assets.
    • Prepare annual fixed asset ledger and depreciation reports.
    • Coordinate annual fixed asset inventory.
  • Prepare the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), and the Annual Budget Book for the GFOA Award Program.
  • Prepare state and federal regulatory reports.
  • Manage all external and internal financial reporting for the College Foundation.
  • Act as liaison for construction project expenses.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
  • Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required plus 2 years of related experience. Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills for a team based environment.  Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.  Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet crucial deadlines with accurate results.  Must be a detail oriented individual with a strong work ethic.  Have the ability to research, interpret, and apply various accounting regulations and pronouncements to assigned tasks.
