Residence Life Coordinator

Job Summary:

Utilizing a student-centered philosophy, the Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing an involving program of community development and multicultural education, the aim of which is to provide meaningful opportunities for the educational, social and cultural growth of each student and the residence hall community as a whole.

Essential Functions:

1. Administration of residential building/area of 100-300 students, including daily supervision of resident advisors.
2. Conduct regular appraisals of the residence hall program and staff, and work closely with hall staff to ensure complete and effective documentation of all aspects of the residential program.
3. Coordinate development sessions for the resident advisor staff.
4. Responsible for opening, closing and securing of the residential buildings at break periods and semesters.
5. Responsible for residential facilities management and custodial upkeep through cooperation and communication with Facilities Management personnel.
6. Organize the operation of hall office, as well as maintenance of occupancy reports and resident and resident advisor staff records.
7. Utilize and update housing and judicial software.
8. Manage a budget and process receipts.
9. Facilitate reconciliation of policy violations and advise students in the judicial process and serve as the primary judicial hearing officer for respective building/area.
10. Responsible for record keeping and billing of common area damage.
11. Advise students on the room change process and facilitate room changes.
12. Advise students regarding personal, social, or academic matters and make appropriate referrals.
13. Advise Residence Life committees as appointed/necessary.
14. Work closely with resident advisors, student affairs staff members, and students in the residence halls to develop various cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs to enhance the co-curricular experience.
15. Coordinate hall programming efforts which facilitate the personal growth of the individual and the hall community.
16. Encourage student acceptance of responsibility for behavior which is in the spirit of the College mission and Office of Residence Life expectations for student behavior.
17. Foster an environment conducive to academic and personal growth through effective interpretation and consistent enforcement of all College and Residence Life policies.
18. Serve as an advisor to the hall council; provide appropriate support and training towards the development of an effective hall council encouraging student empowerment and involvement.
19. Coordinate efforts to educate the residence hall community on issues related to safety, security and residence hall community damage or vandalism.
20. Attend all meetings, seminars and training sessions, including orientations.
21. Participate in the centralized recruitment, selection and training program for resident advisors.
22. Serve in an on-call capacity on a rotating basis for the residential community.
23. Participate in room selection and room assignment processes.
24. Participate in the evaluation and implementation of departmental programs and processes.
25. Assist with at least one major departmental secondary assignment within the Office of Residence Life, which may include Residence Hall Association, summer housing, summer conferences, or overnight programs.
26. Fulfill the responsibilities of a collateral appointment in staff training, staff selection, staff recognition, intercultural education, social programming, and/or other initiatives.
27. Participate in staff meetings and committees as assigned, selected or appointed.
28. Work in conjunction with Student Affairs offices to ensure coordination and sharing of information and programs.
29. Serve as an agent of the Office of Residence Life staff, and when appropriate or requested, attend major College functions representing the Office of Residence Life.
30. Serve on committees within the College at large as appointed or selected.
31. Advise student organizations as assigned or selected.
32. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. A Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel Services or related area.
2. Previous residence hall administration experience.
3. An understanding and commitment to student learning, student development, and intercultural education.
4. Ability to pass a criminal background screening.

Preferred Qualification:

Understanding of and/or experience in a small college environment.
