Assist/Assoc Prof of Epidemiology / Veterinary Epidemiology

Virginia Tech is a public land-grant university, committed to teaching and learning, research, and outreach to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Building on its motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve), Virginia Tech is dedicated to InclusiveVT-serving in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence. We seek candidates who adopt and practice the Principles of Community, which are fundamental to our on-going efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all of its members. Virginia Tech actively seeks a broad spectrum of candidates to join our community in preparing leaders for the world.

Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech Department of Population Health Sciences is hiring two new academic year, tenure-track faculty members in the area of epidemiology/veterinary epidemiology. This is part of a new, university-wide emphasis on data analytics and decision sciences (http://provost.vt.edu/destination-areas/da-data.html), specifically expanding a health sciences focus. This initiative will include additional faculty hires in the coming year and future years from across the university, including within the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine ( VMCVM ; http://www.vetmed.vt.edu/), the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine ( VTCSOM ; http://medicine.vtc.vt.edu/), Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute ( VTCRI ; http://research.vtc.vt.edu/), the Biocomplexity Institute (https://www.bi.vt.edu/), and the Department of Statistics (https://www.stat.vt.edu/).
The primary goal for this faculty recruitment is to increase institutional capabilities for discovery, teaching, and engagement in population health, public health, and clinical research, fostering synergistic interactions among Virginia Tech faculty. The new faculty members will share in teaching epidemiology to veterinary, medical and public health students and will develop interdisciplinary, collaborative, externally funded research programs. The positions are flexible and envisioned to be complementary, with one primarily located in the VT Carilion Health Sciences and Technology Innovation District in Roanoke and the other primarily on the Blacksburg campus. The Department of Population Health Sciences and the Master of Public Health Program embrace a One Health perspective which recognizes the dynamic interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health and the need for wide transdisciplinary collaboration to protect, promote, and improve health.
Primary appointments will be at the rank of assistant/associate professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine with possible secondary appointments at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

Required Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent training based in epidemiology or veterinary epidemiology.
Demonstrated records or promise of successful competitive external funding support in population health based research.

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional veterinary, medical or public health degree or experience preferred.
