Career Development Specialist/Professional Lecturer


Brief Summary:

Marist College invites applications for a Career Development Specialist with expertise in the Nonprofit and Public Service fields. The Career Development Specialist will work with students and faculty throughout Marist College, but primarily serve the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences to enhance the quality of internships, career placement, and graduate school placement. The primary role of this faculty position will be to expand the career opportunities in the nonprofit and public service sectors and work with faculty and students to effectively utilize these opportunities. As a faculty member, the Career Development Specialist will be expected to teach in one of the departments within the SLA or SSBS.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate nonprofit and public service internship and career placement opportunities
  • Develop centralized web based resources to assist faculty and students in identifying nonprofit and public service internships, careers, and graduate school options
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of "College to Career" activities held by the departments and student clubs in SLA and SSBS
  • Work with SLA, SSBS, and Career Services Office to organize NP & PS career events including a NP & PS Career Fair and Career Treks
  • Serve as a Career Services liaison with the departments and internship coordinators within the SLA and SSBS
  • Develop and present specialized workshops to students and faculty specific to careers in the NP and PS sectors
  • Assist faculty with advising and counseling students regarding career selection, internships, and job search strategies with a focus on the NP and PS sectors


Qualifications:

Qualitied candidates will hold a master's degree in one of the SLA or SSBS disciplines and a Ph.D. is preferred. Experience in the nonprofit and public service fields including in career placement and recruitment, and strong existing networks in these areas is essential. Quality candidates will possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and build effective relationships within the college and across the nonprofit and public service fields. Candidates with high levels of resourcefulness, attention to detail, and the ability to develop and implement reporting systems are encouraged to apply.
