Benefits Specialist, Office of Human Resources

Job Summary:

The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, 403(b) plan and processing for the 457 plan.

Responsibilities:
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes. Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
  • Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing. Update employee payroll records.
  • Process monthly billings and the process payment of administrative fees for designated benefits.
  • Audit the accuracy of information in the HRIS and BSWIFT systems.
  • Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions.
  • Assist employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distribute all benefits enrollment materials and determine eligibility.
  • Enroll employees with carriers and process life status changes.
  • Respond to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Process and administer leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interpret FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Respond to 403(b) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes, contribution amounts, loans and withdrawals.
  • Analyze 403(b) contributions per pay period.
  • Administer the Tuition Exchange Program.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Associates degree, Bachelor's preferred or related experience
  • Three years' experience with a minimum of two years in customer service, HR and/or benefits administration.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detailed oriented
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office, particularly Excel
