TECHNICIAN B ELECTRO-MECHANICAL, Haystack Observatory, to support operations, maintenances, and upgrades of three LSSC (Lincoln Space Surveillance Complex) space surveillance radar systems. Will be trained to participate in all aspects of high voltage (40kV and above) RF transmitter construction, operations, and maintenance; work on a variety of equipment including high voltage power supplies, vacuum tubes, precision RF waveguide components, sensitive high power transmitter tubes, high field magnets, and high volume water cooling systems; and assist in laboratory or research work. Duties will include electronic component and subsystem level assembly and troubleshooting, monitoring daily operations, and performing maintenance of the transmitter systems. May operate experimental and technical equipment under the supervision of scientific personnel or technicians of higher grade. Some of the work will be performed at heights.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: technical training in electronics (associate's degree preferred); experience fabricating/repairing electronic equipment; soldering, mechanical fabrication, and assembly skills; ability to work for periods of time without supervision. First aid and hoist operator certifications are essential, as is the ability to climb towers. Experience maintaining high voltage equipment and vacuum tube-based equipment such as that found in radar or communication systems would be ideal. Basic troubleshooting experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers is highly desirable. Job #14473


Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule as maintenance and operational responsibilities will often involve working after hours, different shifts, weekends, and holidays.
