Faculty Position in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery

The Department of Clinical Studies, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania announces an exciting faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery, in the Clinician-Educator track. Applications will be accepted immediately. The start date of the position is negotiable. Clinician-Educators have up to a 67% clinical commitment, and their primary responsibilities include clinical teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents, clinical service in the Small Animal Hospital, and scholarly activity. The successful Clinician-Educator is expected to develop national and international expertise in a focused area of orthopedic research.
The small animal surgery program at Penn Vet currently consists of 7 ACVS Diplomates (including 1 double-boarded by ACVSMR ), 1 ECVS Diplomate, 1 ACVECC Diplomate (interventional radiology/endoscopy), 1 CCRP , 7 residents-in-training, 4 full-time CVT's, and 1 part-time CVT . The three sections that make up the surgery section include soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, and surgical oncology.
The Matthew J. Ryan Small Animal Hospital is situated on Penn's vibrant main campus in Philadelphia, a beautiful historic city that offers an abundance of cultural resources, including music, art, theater, and fine dining (www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn/philadelphia). Adjacent to the veterinary hospital are 2 world-class biomedical hospitals, the Perelman School of Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, both of which provide excellent opportunities with collaborators that have common interests (www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn).
The hospital is a dynamic environment with boarded faculty in most major specialty areas that are recognized by the AVMA . It has recently opened a state-of-the-art minimally invasive operating suite designed to perform advanced interventional and minimally invasive surgical procedures. The surgical facilities house comprehensive orthopedic and soft tissue equipment, such as arthroscopic equipment, total hip replacement system, TPLO / TTA , ESF / CESF , locking plate system, Interlocking Nail, and intra-operative fluoroscopy (c-arm). These are complemented by our diagnostic imaging equipment ( MRI , CT, ultrasound, and stationary fluoroscopy),regenerative medicine, intensive care unit, hemodialysis unit, interventional radiology service, and veterinary clinical investigations center (http://pennvcic.org). The orthopedic service works closely with our PennVet rehabilitation service overseen by 1 CCRP and 2 ACVSMR . Available modalities include: Class IIIB and IV therapeutic lasers, electrical stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, thermo-therapy, PEMF technology, and Canine Exercise Solutions software.
Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and be a Diplomate or board-eligible in the American College of Veterinary Surgery or European College of Veterinary Surgery. Salary will be commensurate with professional and academic credentials and experience.
