ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SOCIOLOGY

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology at Columbus State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology. Specialization within the field of sociology that includes a focus on race, ethnicity, inequality, and globalization is desirable. Experience or background in social work at the undergraduate level may also be valuable.  This position is available August 1, 2017.

Teaching responsibilities may include courses on race, social inequality, statistics, urban sociology, with a possible emphasis on community law enforcement, and globalization. Teaching duties may include a combination of on campus and distance-learning course work. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated research agenda. The department actively seeks out faculty members who are research-active and will contribute to a diverse graduate and undergraduate student body.

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Sociology or related field by the start date for the rank of Assistant Professor. Other qualifications include a demonstrated track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals in sociology and related disciplines; a commitment to mentoring students and collaborating with colleagues to enhance research; and a record of strong teaching performance.
