Brief Summary:
The Office of Health Services invites applications for a part-time, temporary Registered Nurse to provide nursing care and health-related services to full-time undergraduate students at Marist College. This position reports to the Director of Health Services. Work schedule:
- This position requires the ability to work any weekend, 12 noon - 5pm Saturday and Sunday when classes are in session (excluding College holidays and breaks such as Thanksgiving, winter intercession and spring recess).
- Typical scheduling is 1-2 weekends per month.
- Availability for occasional weekday per diem coverage is desired but not required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care (including taking vital signs, obtaining medical history, facilitating laboratory testing, and evaluating condition urgency) to students in collaboration with medical staff
- Provide allergy immunotherapy to students in collaboration with students' allergist, including implementing standing orders for treatment of anaphylaxis if needed
- Provide discharge instructions to students, including education about prescription medications and self-care measures
- Facilitate further medical evaluation or consultation when needed
- Assist with health information processing for incoming students
- Collaborate with and support the Office Coordinators and clerical staff
- Perform or delegate routine office tasks as needed, especially in the absence of the Office Coordinator
- Provide nursing services for out of office events such as commencement and immunization clinics on campus
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with local hospitals to facilitate student care and obtain student medical records as needed
- Communicate with contract pharmacies, including faxing medication orders and receiving and distributing prescription medications as needed
- Order and maintain supplies and medical equipment and communicate with suppliers
- Provide health information to individual students and educational programs to student groups
- Maintain proper nursing licensure and health requirements
- Collaborate with Director to create and develop policies and procedures when required
- Provide emergency evaluation and first aid, including instituting transportation when appropriate, to persons in the Office of Health Services and in the immediate vicinity
- Provide nursing services in accordance with the campus disaster plan in the event of an emergency
- Perform other job-related duties as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Current New York State Registered Nurse License required. Current ACLS or BLS certification. Must have five years nursing experience, preferably in ambulatory and/or adolescent health care, as well as knowledge of physical assessment.
