Overview

The Carl A. Fields Center is Princeton University's unique cultural center. At the Fields Center, diverse perspectives and experiences of race, class, gender and their intersections are supported and challenged, questioned and answered.



Under the direction of the director, the coordinator provides extensive programming, outreach, and education on campus; assists students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members who use the Center; assists in advising student organizations; supervises student employees and volunteers; assists with daily operations of the Center; makes referrals; and helps maintain the Center's 24,000 square foot facility with distinct programming spaces.

Responsibilities

Programming
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver educational, cultural and social workshops and events which focus on diversity, inclusion and social justice programming
  • Oversee academic, social, and cultural programs and services that promote the success of students of color and other under-represented populations on campus
  • Develop diversity, inclusion and social justice workshops including learning outcomes and assessment components



Orientation and Senior Celebrations
  • Design, coordinate and deliver campuswide celebratory events including, but not limited to, Pan-African and Latinx graduation ceremonies
  • Serve as the primary coordinator of orientation and welcome back events



Student Leadership Development and Support
  • Oversee and coordinate the Princeton University Peer Mentoring Program (PUMP) and design and implement a curriculum and development plan for PUMP
  • Assist in all aspects of leadership development programs such as the Cultural Leaders' Summits and Social Justice Training Retreats
  • Development and execution of training and workshops related to diversity and social justice education



Administrative & Office Oversight
  • Serve as the first point of contact for students, staff, and faculty hosting programs and services at the Center including management of the space reservations, maintenance requests, and troubleshooting around facilities issues
  • Prepare budgets, monitor expenditures, and complete all paperwork promptly for all programs assigned and ensures proper maintenance of records
  • Supervise student employees by training them in office policies and procedures, task delegation, and project oversight
  • Participate in and support general campus initiatives and departmental, divisional, and institutional goal setting, committees, and special projects



Outreach & Resource Development
  • Support and advise the university community, student groups seeking to collaborate with the Center,
  • Maintain outreach to students via social networking sites, community engagement, etc.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion within the context of higher education
  • Knowledge of student development and frameworks
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multicultural, social justice-oriented community comprised of individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Prior experience with program development, management, and evaluation, especially on social justice programs
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability express ideas clearly and concisely both
  • Bachelor's Degree with at least 2- 3 years of related experience

The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or other related field preferred
  • Professional experience working with multicultural and social justice education, particularly in the areas of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender
  • Experience with creative educational program development, including program planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Experience giving presentations and conducting training programs
