Associate Director for Safety & Security


Brief Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Safety and Security, the Associate Director will work closely Department employees, students, faculty and staff to assist in strengthening the working relationships, policies, training and emergency preparedness of the Department. He/she will work closely with all departments in staffing and planning college special events. He/she will investigate criminal and non-criminal activity and foster relationships internally and externally that will promote successful outcomes.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Special Events Planning - Plan and coordinate Safety and Security's response to campus special events, staff events and maintain accurate records related to events.
  • Coordination of overtime or contract agency coverage for shift shortages and special events.
  • Assist with operational and investigative reports as required, including providing supervision and oversight of those employees/supervisors engaged in investigations, special events, training, customer service complaints, concerns and commendations related to service delivery and employee conduct. Represents the Department in the absence of the Director.
  • Training - Develop, coordinate and execute training department wide. This will include initial new hire training, mandated annual training, on-going training and supervisory training.
  • Provides functional supervision and direction to department supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, those employees engaged in the areas of special events, training and investigations.
  • Fleet Management and oversight of the Property Control practices
  • Policy Development - Conduct benchmarking and recommendations for best practices related to policy and guidelines for the Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required, along with 5-8 years of experience in a security related field (military, police, or private security) and supervisory experience. The selected candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
