Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure-track, Dept. of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science (http://www.cs.odu.edu/) at Old Dominion University is inviting applications for one full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member with a background in the area of Networks, Systems, or Cybersecurity. Outstanding candidates in other areas of computer science will also be considered. The appointment is expected to be made at the tenure-track, Assistant Professor/Associate Professor rank with an anticipated start date of July 2017.
Applicants must have a PhD in computer science or closely related discipline. Associate Professor candidates should have academic records that merit a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science. A successful record in research and external research funding is required for a tenured appointment. Requirements for the candidates for the Assistant Professor position are the potential for success in research and obtaining external research grants.
The Department of Computer Science has 14 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 7 lecturers, and several adjunct faculty. The faculty has research grant support from NSF , NIH , NASA , DOD , DOE , and other agencies and NSF ranks the department in the top 25% in terms of R&D expenditures among Computer Science departments. Current research areas span a wide range, with established strengths in areas including data science and analysis, digital libraries, high performance scientific computing, parallel mesh generation and real-time medical image computing, web sciences, wireless and sensor networks, and a rapidly expanding interdisciplinary program in cybersecurity. A vibrant graduate program includes about 145 graduate students (45 Ph.D. and 100 M.S.) and the undergraduate program has more than 700 majors. Excellent collaborative research opportunities are available at nearby NASA Langley Research Center, Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, National Institute of Aeronautics, and the Virginia Modeling Analysis and Simulation Center.
