Job Description
The Office of Multicultural and Leadership Development cultivates a campus-wide community which celebrates diversity, empowers students to grow beyond their personal barriers, strengthens students' understanding of diversity and social responsibility, and develops students' leadership skills. The Coordinator, Multicultural Development develops, implements, and sustains comprehensive multicultural and leadership programs that integrates knowledge gained in the classroom with co-curricular practical experiences focusing on diversity, multicultural learning, self-understanding, citizenship, social justice, empowerment, and inclusiveness.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or Counseling.
Two years of experience in student life, multicultural and leadership development, or student involvement.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Consideration will be given to applicants who will have their Master's degree conferred by July 1, 2017.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with under-represented students and multicultural development, and cultural programming for multiple levels of students from freshmen to seniors.
Experience with developing and implementing retreats and workshops for multicultural competencies and leadership skills.
Experience supervising graduate and student assistants.
Experience with desktop publishing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge and ability to write educational & student development objectives.
Knowledge of and ability to implement best practices to support diversity within institutions of higher education.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
Conflict resolution skills.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to develop, implement, facilitate, and assess cultural and social-justice oriented programs, activities, and events that support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
Ability to work effectively with students and possess a commitment to social justice and equity.
Ability to operate a personal computer with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Knowledge of and ability to learn desktop publishing.
Ability to navigate sensitive situations and understand community-building, team-building, leadership development, and collaboration.
Ability to think creatively and meet student developmental needs.
Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
Demonstrated ability to build effective and collaborative working relationships within and across diverse populations with students of all ages, colleagues, and the general public.

Salary Range
$39,000 - $44,990

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Contributes and supports the structure, direction, services, and trans-formative educational programs. Develops, implements, and sustains comprehensive multicultural and leadership programs that integrates knowledge gained in the classroom with co-curricular practical experiences focusing on diversity, multicultural learning, self-understanding, citizenship, social justice, empowerment, and inclusiveness.
•Coordinates student development programs to enhance student engagement and structured opportunities bringing groups of students, faculty, and staff together for discussions, networking, and support (one-day sessions, retreats and monthly workshops). Trains students how to become student leaders and peer mentors within the program.
•Supervises the Multicultural Ambassadors Program and coordinates the Frosh Mosh Multicultural and Leadership Development institute program for first year students, which documents academic progression of its students through graduation.
•Develops a structured mentor-ship and follow-up tracking system for programs such as Frosh Mosh and multicultural ambassadors.
•Assists with the implementation and facilitation of the Social Justice Institute.
•Develops program strategies to engage and increase Latino student retention rates.
•Coordinates efforts and provides cultural heritage celebrations and educational programs and retreats - Beyond the Lines: Diversity and Social Justice Retreat, Leadership Academy, Hispanic heritage month, Leader Shape FGCU , Women's history month, LGBT , and other religious awareness programs. Assists the Coordinator for Leadership Development with LeaderShape FGCU .
•Advises and develops civic engagement programs such as Alternative Break throughout the year and during breaks for selection of service sites, assessment, selection of site leaders, and participants.
•Prepares and implements evaluations, maintains data, assessments, and strategic planning initiatives to assess and report growth and effectiveness of the overall and individual programs to supervisor and dean of students.
•Develops collaborative relationships to ensure the involvement of students, staff, faculty, and community partners to enhance the understanding of diversity and multicultural competence among all students.
•Coordinates the open selection process of student delegations to regional and national diversity/multicultural conferences.
•Ensures that multicultural competencies and learning outcomes are incorporated into all programming.
•Develops budget recommendations and assists with developing activities and services budget requests.
•Monitors and complies with all fiscal expenditures and guidelines in accordance with university policies and procedures.

Other Job Duties

Other Duties
•Assists with departmental functions and participates in outreach for the Dean of Students Office.
•May supervise a graduate assistant and student leaders involved in multicultural development.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
