Position Profile


Duties:
Santa Monica College (SMC) Health Center is seeking a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) to be responsible for coordinating all phases of nutrition care including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling of students within the SMC Health Center setting.

Serve as an integral part of a multidisciplinary SMC Health Center team and is responsible for nutrition programming and outreach, in coordination with campus and community partners.

Provide student care congruent with SMC Health Care medical policies/procedures and develop policies for student nutritional care.

Precept and evaluate Dietetics Interns' learning and competence as they progress through the SMC Health Center Supervised Practice Rotation and collaborate with internship faculty.

Utilize practical and collaborative advisement approach in developing personalized strategies for healthy lifestyle choices and wellness.

Provide SMC students, faculty and staff with monthly, health promotion and disease prevention/intervention workshops.

Consult with SMC Health Care personnel for support and/or referral.

Provide student care congruent with SMC Health Care medical policies/procedures and develop policies for student nutritional care.

Additional Duties:
General nutrition care of SMC students including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling to support:
Eating/Nutrition Questions (not Disordered Eating)
Eating for Wellness
Nutrition for Fitness and Sport
Obtaining/Maintaining Healthy Body Weight
Vegetarianism/Veganis
Gluten-Free Eating

Demonstrated experience identifying and treating Eating Disorders (Minimum two years experience preferred)

Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to work with a diverse student population.

Demonstrated skills in confidentiality and sound decision making.

Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written skills.

Demonstrated ability to communicate and work comfortably and professionally with students, colleagues, faculty, staff and campus constituents.

Demonstrated general computer skills. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and willingness to learn other programs as needed.

Commitment to the mission of SMC Health Center and Santa Monica College.

Ability to create student resources/handouts.

Experience "precepting" and evaluating Dietetics Interns

Verifiable, current RDN Registration status with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in Nutrition, dietetics, or dietetics and food administration OR Bachelors in any of the above AND Master's in chemistry, public health, or family and consumer studies/home economics OR the equivalent.
(Note: A Bachelor's in nutrition, dietetics, or dietetics and food administration, and certification as a registered dietitian, is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5, section 53410.1).

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience with one-on-one young adult nutrition counseling required (Minimum two years experience required)

Supportive nutrition care of SMC students with medical diagnoses benefiting nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling to support:
Disordered eating (coordinate treatment with Campus Psychologists)

Part-time employees who are members of the unit, who have been employed two previous semesters within the last six semesters, and as of Monday of the third week of the semester who have teaching assignments of five hours or more per week for the semester, or as of Monday of the fifth week of the semester are assigned the equivalent of five hours or more per week of a non- teaching assignment shall be eligible to receive Kaiser medical insurance. The District shall contribute an amount equal to the single party Kaiser Health Maintenance Plan premium not under PERS. In lieu of the Kaiser plan, eligible employees may elect a composite dental or vision plan. Employees who lose non-District-provided coverage as a result of divorce or death of a spouse shall be allowed to change their election; otherwise changes to election of Kaiser or dental or vision plans are limited to the open enrollment period.
Part-time faculty shall be entitled to sick leave at the rate of six hours for each one hundred hours of teaching service. All faculty working during summer or winter intersession shall accrue sick leave at the hourly rate.
