Director of Digital Education, Information Technology


Brief Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Information Technology / CIO, the Director will lead the integration of digital technology into the College's curriculum and provide assistance to faculty to develop the methodologies and strategies for improving student learning outcomes. Provide senior leadership and management to digital education staff members and provide guidance and support to senior members of the College's administration. The Director will supervise the Assistant Director Digital Education, and Digital Education staff and students.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the VP/CIO for Information Technology will:

  • Lead and promote the integration and use of technology with digital education support services and research.
    • Understand effective pedagogy and instructional design in digital learning;
    • Develop knowledge on content and course management systems to support digital learning;
    • Provide the "best of breed" support for Marist faculty using digital tools to teach;
    • Lead major innovative and emerging digital education projects that impact the campus-wide and external community
    • Work closely with faculty of all disciplines on technology enhanced and supported activities.
    • Develop instructional and reference materials, newsletters, etc.
    • Plan and implement "state of the art" content delivery systems and methodologies for integration into curriculum
    • Organize, develop, and lead workshops and information sessions for faculty to develop their digital skills and expose them to innovative uses of technology in their operating environment;
    • Monitor emerging digital teaching and learning technologies and practices and present findings regularly
    • Develop rich reporting environment and capabilities that quantify and qualify on line learning content to assist in determining effectiveness
  • Lead or participate in committees that address academic concerns regarding digital education and support
  • Research and secure significant grants related to digital technologies for teaching, learning, collaboration, and academic analytics
  • Provide interdepartmental coordination and liaison on behalf of educational computing users
  • Develop and manage budget for digital education efforts
  • Represent college at regional and national conferences i.e. (EDUCAUSE), initiate workshops and seminars on campus
  • Contribute to the enhancement of entrepreneurial activities, including:
    • Prepare proposals and participate in the adoption cycle of third parties
    • Present solutions developed at the College to interested parties
    • Provide content management and course management systems expertise to external constituencies using an e-utility or computing on demand model
    • Build long-term relationships with external clients.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Master's Degree is required, PhD. is preferred in any of the Instructional or Educational Sciences or Arts, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related fields. Experience in evaluating and integrating technology in the teaching and learning environment and supporting e-learning initiatives is also required. Experience in presenting to industry peers is required as is proven success in an educational or professional training environments. This position will attribute time directed towards building collaborative relationships inside and outside of the College and to work and support new educational venture initiatives. Experience in developing and operating training programs for internal and external customers desired. Proven management capabilities, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent organizational and customer service skills are required.
