St. John's University is seeking an Associate Vice President (AVP) to provide strategic leadership to the University's Development, Alumni and Advancement Services units. Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement and University Relations, the Associate Vice President will lead a team of major gift officers along with the functional leads for Alumni & Donor Relations, Advancement Services, Special Initiatives and Gift Planning departments. The AVP will also engage with key internal and external constituents including the President and members of the President's Advisory Council, Board members, faculty, administrators, staff, students and alumni.

Duties and Responsibilities: The AVP will co-lead the preparation, execution and management of the University's advancement program, including the creation of quarterly and annual goals, and provide oversight of campaign strategies, goals and solicitations to ensure targets are met. The AVP will evaluate, design, implement and benchmark fundraising programs to maximize revenue generation in annual and capital programs. He or she will actively participate in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donor prospects.

As a senior development officer, the AVP is expected to solicit and secure funds and resources that support the University's mission, expand the major donor population, and lead the planning and execution of special events. This position will oversee all Advancement units as assigned by the Vice President for Advancement and University Relations. In conjunction with the University's strategic priorities, the AVP will ensure that unit plans are developed in a thorough and consistent framework, metrics are defined and tracked, monthly/annual plans are submitted, initiatives are monitored for completion, budgets are effectively utilized. He or she will oversee fiscal management, report metrics, manage effective gift closure and maintain a focus on achievement of goals, while minimizing the cost per dollar gift ratio. He or she will establish strong and appropriate relationships with the President and members of the President's Advisory Council, Board members, faculty, administrators, staff, students, donors, and alumni to advance the division's fundraising goals in conjunction with the University's strategic priorities. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.



Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree preferred. A minimum of 10-12 years fundraising experience in at least three of the following areas: Development, Fundraising, Advancement Services, Alumni and Donor Relations, and Gift Planning. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive management experience, possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated familiarity with the laws, regulations and ethical standards related to fundraising, and a willingness to travel on behalf of the University. The preferred candidate will also possess a genuine commitment to the mission of St. John's as a Catholic and Vincentian university.
