Position Summary:
As part of a new university-wide emphasis on Global Systems Science, Virginia Tech is hiring a cluster of at least six faculty members in the area of infectious disease. In connection with this initiative, the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute ( VTCRI ) (http://research.vtc.vt.edu) seeks to recruit a tenure-track faculty member in virology at the rank of Assistant Professor (qualified senior candidates will also be considered). Applicants should have an earned doctorate and a demonstrated track record of research productivity. Those whose programs employ molecular, biochemical, and genetic approaches to investigate mechanisms of viral replication and/or virus-host interactions are particularly encouraged to apply. The new faculty member will join a highly collaborative and successful group of investigators at the VTCRI and will be required to establish and maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program and participate in teaching/mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. A tenure earning appointment will be made through an appropriate department at Virginia Tech, and a competitive salary, space, and start-up packages will be provided.
The VTCRI and School of Medicine represent a successful public-private partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia's leading research intensive university - Virginia Tech - and a major health care system - Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. The research institute and medical school are located in the picturesque Roanoke Valley midway between Washington, DC and Charlotte, NC. The VTCRI currently houses 24 independent research groups with over 200 research and support team members. Prospective faculty members can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of graduate students to work with them in their research program. Specifically, Virginia Tech has over 6,000 graduate students and offers graduate programs in biomedically-related disciplines, including the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Heath Ph.D. program that has Immunity and Infectious Disease and as one of its tracks (http://www.tbmh.vt.edu). Applicants will also enjoy access to unique shared research facilities on the main Virginia Tech campus, located just 40 miles away in Blacksburg, VA.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a doctorate and postdoctoral training experience. Successful applicants must have demonstrated a track record of successful research related to virology, with a strong potential of developing innovative research programs that can attract sustained extramural funding.
