RESEARCH SCIENTIST, MARKET FACILITATION LEAD, Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL)- Humanitarian Response Lab (HRL), to join a multidisciplinary team conducting research on food security supply chains and market systems in low- and middle-income countries. The Humanitarian Response Lab works with government, nongovernment, and private sector organizations to improve supply chains in developing countries. Will develop and implement field research on the Market Systems Monitoring (MSM) activity, a USAID-funded project to study agricultural supply chains in Uganda. Responsibilities include technical leadership of MSM field research and supervision of field teams; collaborating with relevant stakeholders, including serving as the Uganda-based liaison with local partners and a wide range of stakeholders; research design, methodological development and implementation, data collection, and analysis; and report writing and research publication. General responsibilities include theoretical and applied research; planning and conducting appropriate field research; supporting student involvement in research projects; publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and proceedings; delivering reports to sponsors; actively engaging thought leaders, policymakers, managers, and others to move ideas to action; leveraging research to develop new educational materials and curricula; delivering educational programs; and other duties as needed.

Job Requirements:
REQUIRED: Ph.D. or master's degree and three years of relevant experience in agricultural economics, development economics, international development, monitoring and evaluation, public policy, program/project management, operations management, supply chain management, transportation, or related field; knowledge of empirical and economic research methods; ability to conduct statistical/econometric analysis and design and implement field research; knowledge of international development monitoring and evaluation; excellent communication and presentation skills; history of working without hands-on guidance and direction; and willingness to contribute to CTL's broader mission. Experience with USAID, food security, and/or market facilitation projects desirable. Job #14426


The position is based in Uganda with several weeks working on the MIT campus each year. The mix of time on campus and in the field may change over time.
