Job Description
The Systems Engineer is responsible for installing, monitoring, and maintaining the integrity and security of the enterprise's servers/systems. The System Engineer follows support processes for all of the enterprise's operating units and conducts limited system analysis, keeps systems current with changing technologies, and installs new systems.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field.
Basic understanding of enterprise systems and applications such as current versions of Windows Server/Linux or other enterprise services.

Preferred Qualifications
One year of experience in Technology within an operations environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic knowledge and experience with local area networking, communications, and current related hardware and software such as operating systems or enterprise applications. Basic knowledge of enterprise system and enterprise application administration and system management tools and processes.
Good interpersonal skills as well as good oral and written communication skills. Ability to gather information from departmental coworkers, and relay information to the appropriate audience.
Ability to document routine technical issues effectively, summarizing issues for a range of technical and business clients.
Ability to complete assigned tasks as scheduled by Manager. Ability to prioritize day-to-day routine administrative functions, and to perform more difficult tasks under direct supervision.
Ability to utilize analytical skills and to consult existing documentation to troubleshoot routine issues affecting systems and applications. Ability to investigate user problems, identify issues, determine possible solutions, and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.

Salary Range
$49,000 - $52,887

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Implements higher level System Engineer's designs, and builds the enterprise's computing systems in the local and remote data centers. Deploys servers, storage, applications, and other hardware or software under direct guidance. Assists with finding potential system architecture/design problems and reports problems to higher level System Engineers for further investigation.
•Assists with creation and maintenance of existing documentation as it relates to system configuration, enterprise applications, and processes. Assists with maintaining procedures for systems/application administration, usage, and disaster recovery. Documents work completed using the work order system. Provides project tracking to ensure projects and day-to-day work schedules are being met.
•Installs, monitors, maintains, supports and optimizes equipment such as servers or storage. Supports software and applications, under direct guidance. Monitors and analyzes system/application performance and availability against expectations, implements performance tuning and assists with basic troubleshooting of systems/application problems. Provides system/application performance statistics and reports. Replaces defective hardware in clients or servers as necessary.
•Interacts with vendors and service providers to resolve routine system and application problems, and implements solutions. Assists in analyzing, evaluating, and recommending new hardware and software for compatibility and applicability. Tests new third party hardware/software. Stays informed of new development and technologies.
•Implements system and application security, including installing security updates/patches, managing host security, backup and disaster recovery planning, and adding and deleting users. Monitors and audits compliance with enterprise security policies and procedures, and reports violations to the Assistant Director. Maintains confidentiality with regard to information being processed, stored or accessed through university system and network resources.
•Provides assistance to system users on use of applications/services, and other systems. Assists users in maximizing use of applications and computing systems.
•Participates in information gathering and systems analysis. Identifies key milestones for small projects, and creates simple project plans.
•Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
