SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR, Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS)-Computer Services Group, to support computation at LNS and the Center for Theoretical Physics. Will provide system administration for the backend systems that provide services to the lab. The server environment is built upon Kerberos network authentication, AFS distributed network file system, and LDAP directory services. User systems include Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and Microsoft Windows.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) in computer science, physics, mathematics, or related field; self-starter; and excellent organizational, customer support, and verbal and written communication skills. Facility with the following required: vi and/or Emacs editor, Sed, awk, Perl, UNIX shells, automating tasks via scripts; administration of UNIX-like operating systems; OS installation, run levels, system startups and shutdowns, init scripts; revision control systems; Autotools, e.g., software compilation via ./configure, make, make install and creating and maintaining software packages from compiled software; and UNIX programming environment, X Window System, C programming, and general programming fluency. Must be able to install, configure, administer, and provide ongoing user support for email; network authentication services; distributed directory information; network file systems; storage technologies; domain name services; virtual and physical server hosting; clusters for scientific computation; printer management; system backup, restore, and disaster recovery; network monitoring and logging; firewall management; video conferencing hardware and software; conference/workshop/meeting management software; collaborative document server software; operating systems; and database servers. Familiarity with MIT's environment including Athena; TCP/IP internetworking skills and experience with routing and switching; computer, information, and network security; and facility with TeX/LaTeX and mathematical application and scientific software preferred.
