Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute ( VTCRI ) has launched a new center within the institute - the Developmental and Translational Neurobiology Center ( DTNC ; https://wp.vtc.vt.edu/dtnc/), to expand the institute's research programs in cellular and molecular neurobiology in healthy development, disease, and trauma. There are currently two open assistant professor faculty positions - one for a neurobiologist studying mechanisms underlying brain development or neurodevelopmental disorders and one for a neurobiologist or neuro-immunologist studying neurodegenerative disease or brain injury. Applicants should have an earned doctorate, have completed postdoctoral training and demonstrated a track record of successful research, publications and either active extramural funding (preferably from NIH ) or show distinct promise to obtain such funding. The new faculty will join a collaborative and highly successful group of investigators at the VTCRI with related research interests in a variety of areas of neuroscience. Competitive salary, space and start-up packages will be provided.
The VTC Research Institute and School of Medicine represent a successful public-private partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia's leading research-intensive university - Virginia Tech - and a major health care system - Carilion Clinic, in Roanoke, VA. The research institute and medical school are located in the picturesque Roanoke Valley midway between Washington DC and Charlotte, NC. The VTCRI currently houses 25 independent research groups with over 250 research and support team members and over $70M in current active extramural research funding. Prospective faculty members can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of graduate students to work with them in their research program. VT has over 6,000 graduate students and offers graduate programs in many neuroscience-related disciplines, including as a major focus area in the Translational Biology, Medicine and Heath ( TBMH ) program. Applicants will also enjoy access to unique shared research facilities at the VTCRI including high-resolution single and multi-photon confocal neuroimaging, fluorescence activated cell sorting, multiple MRIs, human and animal behavioral testing and molecular biology facilities.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. (or M.D./Ph.D. or D.V.M./Ph.D.) and postdoctoral training experience. Successful applicants must have demonstrated a track record of successful research, publications and either active extramural funding (preferably from NIH ) or show distinct promise to obtain such funding.
