Postdoctoral Associate, Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Laboratory


Job Description :
POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Mechanical Engineering-Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Laboratory, to work with a team designing low-power, low-cost electrodialysis desalination systems. Will articulate the engineering relationships behind different electrodialysis (ED) electrode designs and determine the parametric relationships behind how design and composition affects cost, life, electrical resistance, etc.; integrate into a design team creating novel ED stack designs such as spiral configurations; contribute to modeling the behavior of such stacks and how their design affects important factors like cost and power dissipation; model how changes in flow channel geometry affect ion transfer behavior in the ED stack; exercise leadership, personal responsibility, and independent judgment; help mentor and supervise students working on ED research; and structure, write, and edit academic papers produced by the group and contribute to proposal writing.

Job Requirements:
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, another engineering discipline, or related technical field; experience working with and/or modeling desalination systems; experience modeling the chemical behavior of materials used in desalination systems and ion flow through materials; a background in fluid mechanics; ability to scope, plan, and execute independent research; ability to advise graduate students on their research; ability to work well with students, including teaching them new skills, brainstorming, ideation, etc.; excellent communication, writing, organization, and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and ability to effectively communicate technical issues, give and receive constructive feedback, and generate new ideas/solutions.
