Position Summary:
Virginia Tech (VT) recently launched a bold and innovative Neuroscience Initiative by establishing a new School of Neuroscience. With the objective to globally recruit outstanding students interested in obtaining a degree in Neuroscience it is expected that VT will become a destination university for the nation's best students interested in Neuroscience . The School of Neuroscience offer an innovative interdisciplinary curriculum spanning multiple disciplines and colleges. In addition to the traditional pre-health neuroscience courses on Cellular, Molecular, Developmental, Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience, a newly developed curriculum include innovative courses such as Neuroinformatics, Neuroengineering, Neurorobotics, Neuromedicine, Neurogenetics, Neurolaw, Neuroethics and Neuroeconomics, among others. Following a "hands-on minds-on" philosophy, VT expects students to engage in scholarly research and discovery activities as part of their training.
Virginia Tech invites applications by interested faculty candidates to join the 8 primary faculty members who joined the School for Neuroscience in 2015/2016 (http://www.neuroscience.vt.edu). Prospective faculty members must show a sincere interest in teaching undergraduates and be prepared to develop innovative courses. Successful candidates will establish a competitive research program that can attract extramural funding from a wide variety of funding agencies and are expected to show a desire to include undergraduates as an integral part of their research program. With over 6000 graduate students, VT also offers graduate programs in many Neuroscience-related disciplines, for example the translational biology, medicine and heath program ( TBMH ), and prospective faculty members can draw from an excellent pool of graduate students to support their research program.
VT expects to recruit up to 15 new faculty members over the next 3 years, with the majority being recruited at the tenure track Assistant Professor level. However, well-qualified mid-career applicants are also encouraged to apply. Competitive salary, space and start-up packages will be provided. Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned a doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., MD/Ph.D., DVM ) in a relevant discipline and at least post-doctoral experience at the time of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate a strong background in neuroscience related research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and attendance of scientific conferences and prior funding through individual federal or foundation support; have a vision to establish an independent research program with a high likelihood to be competitive for extramural grant support; demonstrated experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research; vision, creativity, and leadership skills; willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries and a true desire to advise and teach a student body which is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, interests, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with research programs that mesh well with the immediate programmatic needs of the School and who can quickly establish undergraduate courses that support a rigorous and diverse Neuroscience curriculum. Existing grant support, while not essential, will be considered supportive.
