Assistant Professor for Sound Recording Technology (Tenure Track)

The Old Dominion University F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music seeks qualified candidates for a tenure track, Assistant Professor Program Coordinator in Sound Recording Technology. Position begins July 25, 2021.
The successful candidate will bring forward substantial experience as an audio engineer/teacher to lead a vibrant, growing Bachelor of Music in Sound Recording Technology program. This position requires professional level fluency with Pro Tools and other DAWS , recording techniques and live audio engineering. Instructional responsibilities and duties comprise approximately 50% of the workload. These may include but are not limited to teaching in the following topical areas: live audio, recording, editing, mixing, mastering, audio and video post-production, digital audio, broadcast and performance, distribution, Internet media, copyright and piracy, and creative commons.
25% of the load is dedicated to creative research activity. This may include but is not limited to recording, producing, publishing and performing in the media and technology landscape.
The remaining 25% of the load is dedicated to service to include serving as Program Coordinator, oversight of Chandler Recital Hall (hiring, training and scheduling student workers for the hall), and committee service. Program Coordinator responsibilities include oversight of program curriculum, which contain required courses in music business and song writing, recruitment, Internet web content and maintenance, advising, administration of the recording studio including acquisition of equipment, and assisting in the development of the Bachelor of Music with Emphasis in Sound Recording Technology degree internship. The Program Coordinator will provide the vision for the future of the Sound Recording Technology degree and supervise its faculty. Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Two years minimum collegiate level teaching experience
• Three years minimum professional level experience in recording technology
• Exceptional communication skills in the academic setting

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
• Terminal degree in music technology or related field

Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience administrating academic programs
• Doctorate in music technology or related field
• Five years experience in recording technology
• Demonstrated experience in video editing/technology
• Ability to interpret music notation and scores
