Assistant Professor in Molecular, Cellular, and/or Systems Physiology, REPOST


Position Summary

The Department of Physiology and Neurobiology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut, Storrs invites applications from talented scientists for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. We encourage applications from individuals studying fundamentally important questions in an area of Physiology at the molecular, cellular and/or systems level. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through an active research program, extramural funding, high quality publications, and national recognition. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in graduate and undergraduate teaching through development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development. Through their research, teaching and/or public engagement, the successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles.

We are pleased to continue these investments by inviting applications for this tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, one of two positions currently open in the Department of Physiology and Neurobiology.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or equivalent; at least two years of post-doctoral research experience in an area of physiology including, but not limited to, metabolism, organ systems, and neuro-visceral interactions; an outstanding scholarly record including publications in leading journals; deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels; strong communication skills; and the ability to promote diversity through their teaching and research programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with independent research proposal development, ideally with a record of funding from national agencies; demonstrated ability to carry out independent research; an innovative, collaborative, and/or multidisciplinary research approach; active participation in major professional societies and international meetings; a record of effective teaching, such as integrating technology into instruction and online instruction; and the ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

Appointment Terms

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2017. The successful candidate's academic appointment and laboratory space will be at the Storrs campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
