Senior Associate Dean - Batten College of Engineering & Technology

The Senior Associate Dean ( SAD ) reports directly to the Dean of the College and serves as the chief operating and financial officer for the Frank Batten College of Engineering & Technology. As the College seeks to realize its potential and achieve its strategic goals, the SAD position will serve as the primary administrative representative of the College at the University-level, while providing timely and ongoing updates to the Dean.
The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for the alignment and effective use of the resources allocated to the College, including personnel, fiscal, technology, and facilities, in support of the College's mission. The SAD will serve as a member of the College Leadership Team and will assist the Dean in facilitating sound effective working relationships between the College and all other ODU programs. The SAD will assume responsibility for academic data collection, analysis and reporting for departmental ABET and TAC accreditations, SACS accreditation, ranking by the external bodies, and internal planning and strategic decision making.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee faculty recruitment and hiring processes for faculty in the College.
2. Manage the reappointment, promotion, tenure, pre-tenure and post-tenure policies, procedures, and performance reviews at the College level.
3. Manage faculty and staff on-boarding processes for the College.
4. Manage all of the College's facilities.
5. Review and update of the College policies and procedures related to the implementation of all the College programs and initiatives.
6. Provide leadership and collaborate with faculty and staff to create an affirming and healthy school climate. This includes analysis of the COACHE results and proposal of appropriate recommendations.
7. Review search committee membership, searches and candidate pools and ensure adherence to all college, university, state and federal policies (unless this is handled at the university level).
8. Assist the Dean in the ongoing development and execution of an iterative strategic plan and a continuous quality improvement program.
9. Assist the Dean in the timely preparation, submission, allocation, and utilization of the College budget, including oversight and management for the ETF process.
10. Collect and analyze academic data for accreditation, ranking and other internal planning and strategic decision making processes.
11. Consult and assist department heads and faculty with workforce planning, strategic staffing guidance, and implementation of staffing initiatives.
12. Ensure compliance with ODU , College, and departmental policies and procedures related to finance and human resources.
13. Report data and metrics to external bodies and internal ODU units for ongoing evaluation of programs and ranking.
14. Review personnel actions for the College and departments. May work with unit directors to assist in developing strategic staffing plans and to recruit a diverse faculty and staff.
15. Represent the College at public, university and campus events in the absence of the Dean.
16. Benchmark the college against peer institutions and national trends.
17. Assist the Dean in building new partnerships and increasing philanthropic contributions to the college.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
This position requires a doctorate in engineering from an accredited college or university with over five years' experience with proven senior executive leadership in a variety of academic engineering environments. Qualified candidates must be eligible for academic appointment with tenure in one of the College's departments; have successful and formal leadership experience at the program, department, or college level; understand the complexities of a contemporary college of engineering; be an exceptional communicator across multiple and diverse audiences; be skilled in using a broad range of tangible information to guide decision making; and understand the strategic role of administrative and operational processes in promoting organization progress; proven track record in strategic planning at the college and university level; past leadership in the areas of continuous quality improvement and risk management; training and mediation experience in an academic engineering environment; proven outcomes in community outreach and fundraising.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
This position requires a doctorate in engineering from a regionally accredited college or university.
