Postdoctoral Associate, Core Plasma Transport Physics



POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Plasma Science and Fusion Center, to work in the area of experimental plasma physics and fusion energy research in collaboration with the NSTX-U tokamak at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. Candidates are sought with research expertise in plasma-material interactions and surface science. Will design and lead experiments at NSTX-U and other tokamaks, interface with theory and modeling groups, and contribute to ongoing research thrusts within the PSFC program.

Will have an opportunity to make original research contributions to the PSFC program, produce work for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and present work at scientific conferences.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a Ph.D. or its equivalent in plasma physics, plasma-materials interactions, or closely related science and engineering discipline at the time of appointment; outstanding scientific research ability; excellent communication skills; and willingness to work in a large team alongside undergraduate and graduate students, project scientists, and faculty. Seek candidates with experience working on the development, operation, and/or data analysis of diagnostics relevant for the study of impurities and impurity transport, heat transport, and momentum transport. Specifically, experience with spectroscopy (visible to X-ray range) is desirable. Experience performing analysis and/or numerical modeling in the context of transport in tokamaks is also desirable. The position will be full-time at the NSTX-U tokamak facility sited at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory in Princeton, NJ.
