Philanthropic Advisor



PHILANTHROPIC ADVISOR, Resource Development-Office of Philanthropic Partnerships (2 openings), to have dual responsibility for building relationships with some of the Institute's most affluent prospects who work and reside in Northern California, Boston, and the metropolitan New York region; and for building a portfolio of new prospects to cultivate unaffiliated philanthropic high net worth individuals. Will focus on securing funding, at the principal gift level, for institutional initiatives of the highest value and priority to MIT; manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles; forge relationships with a diverse population of prospects that will help realize seven-, eight- and nine-figure solicitations; travel to visit prospects, often in tandem with the president and other senior officers of the Institute; oversee the preparation of funding proposals, talking points and scripts, assessments of potential support, briefings for senior officers and Corporation members, and stewardship reports for all assigned prospects; and ensure that all interested parties and stakeholders are involved in key efforts focused on specific prospects.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree; at least seven years of direct fund-raising experience; demonstrated ability to deal effectively with $1M+ benefactors; demonstrated experience securing large gift commitments and developing relationships with donors and prospects; superior negotiation skills; excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior officers, faculty, and volunteers; working knowledge of planned giving, financial, and or estate planning concepts; proven skill in independent planning and efficient utilization of time and resources; superior interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills; and proven ability to develop and negotiate complex relationships and proposals.
