Communications Coordinator



COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR, Biology, to assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a communications plan for the department, with the goal of promoting visibility and community awareness. Will write, edit, and post short- and long-form content including information about departmental mission, biographical sketches, faculty/student/postdoc profiles, event summaries, funding priorities, proposals, newsletters, annual reports, etc.; distribute content using a variety of media (print, online, PowerPoint, social media, etc.); serve as a liaison with MIT's news and media relations teams and with communications colleagues across the Institute; build relationships with faculty to create news pipelines ahead of publication; contribute to developing effective communications strategies; and organize the maintenance of the department's website content and coordinate the work of contributors of web content and design.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree; deep interest in the life sciences, cancer, biotech, pharma research and/or other STEM fields; excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex scientific information to general audiences; strong organizational and project management skills; initiative; comfort working under a deadline; familiarity with print, email, social media, and web communication platforms; ability to build relationships and consensus among scientists and individuals internal and external to MIT. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), FileMaker or other databases, Drupal, website redesign, or project management methods would be a bonus. A Ph.D. in a relevant area of biological sciences preferred. Experience in higher education, research, or journalism a plus. Job #13563-N
