Postdoctoral Associate



POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) (2 openings), to work in the area of experimental plasma physics and fusion energy research at the DIII-D tokamak at General Atomics in San Diego, CA. Will design and lead experiments at DIII-D and other tokamaks, interface with theory and modeling groups, and contribute to ongoing research thrusts within the PSFC program. Will also make original research contributions to the PSFC program, produce work for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and present work at scientific conferences.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) in plasma physics or closely related science and engineering discipline at the time of appointment; experience working on tokamaks or basic plasma experiments; and experience working on development, operation, and/or data analysis of diagnostics relevant for the study of tokamak plasmas. Experience with laser-based diagnostics and/or plasma spectroscopy (visible, x-ray, gamma range) is desirable. Experience with database analysis and analysis and/or numerical modeling in the context of transport and stability in tokamaks is also desirable. Must display outstanding scientific research ability; excellent communication skills; and the willingness to work in a large team alongside undergraduate and graduate students, project scientists, and faculty.
