POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, INTEGRATION OF SENSING DATA AND COMPUTATIONAL MODELS FOR REDUCING RISKS IN UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION, Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre, to join the Center for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM) and carry out research on the integration of monitoring data and computational models for predicting the performance of structural support systems during tunnel construction (Re-Structure Project). The overall goal of this research is to reduce risks associated with underground construction. This research will be supervised by Professor Andrew Whittle.

SMART is a major research enterprise established by MIT in partnership with the National Research Foundation of Singapore (NRF). SMART serves as an intellectual hub for international research collaborations, not only between MIT and Singapore, but also involving researchers from the region and beyond. SMART identifies and carries out research on critical problems of societal importance. It is a magnet attracting and anchoring global research talent, while simultaneously instilling and promoting a culture of translational research and entrepreneurship in Singapore. Five interdisciplinary research groups (IRGs) have been established to date: BioSystems and Micromechanics (BioSyM), Centre for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM), Future Urban Mobility (FM), Infectious Diseases (ID), and Low Energy Electronics Systems (LEES).

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering and/or computer science; strong data assimilation, data fusion and/or data analysis skills; expertise with wireless sensor networks and/or familiarity with methods of structural health monitoring and computational modeling of soil-structure interaction; a strong publication record; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to work both independently and with members of an interdisciplinary team.
