Mechatronic Engineer/Embedded Systems Engineer



MECHATRONIC ENGINEER/EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER, Media Laboratory-Open Agriculture Initiative (OpenAG), to join a multidisciplinary research group developing open source, cyber physical CEA systems on a variety of scales. Will design and architect with an understanding of the full stack in terms of hardware and software, the team and their abilities, and bandwidth including the context and priority of design audiences. Responsibilities will include core embedded systems development of research platforms; coordinating with back end, front end, mechanical, biological, and architectural teams; integrating environmental sensing and control systems; and other duties as assigned. Will report to the PI of the Open Agriculture Initiative.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in computer science, electrical engineering, embedded systems, or similar technical field; at least three years' professional experience in system design, embedded systems, electronics, or firmware; demonstrated fluency in all stages of hardware and software design and development; programming experience in Python and C++; Experience with middleware frameworks (e.g., ROS) and driver development; microcontroller programming experience; PCB design and manufacturing experience; Rapid prototyping and parametric design experience (e.g., Solidworks, CAD); effective communication skills; the ability to collaborate with a diverse group in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and rapidly changing work environment; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and serving diverse constituents. Seek a highly organized individual who is able to think strategically, work independently with minimal oversight, perform several tasks concurrently, and manage timelines. Experience with the design and architecture of back end and/or front end web-based systems preferred. Job #13048

This is a one-year-appointment with the possibility of extension.
