Communications Assistant

COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT, MIT-Singapore Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) (part-time 20 hrs/wk.), to provide communication and administrative support; assist with the dissemination and promotion of publicity within MIT regarding the centre's research achievements and other newsworthy activities; rewrite, format, and proofread articles for publishing on the MIT website; assist with the logistics and scheduling of events, meetings, and conferences; and provide administrative support. Responsibilities include assisting with the generation of content for the SMART website, including feature stories, short news items, and researcher spotlights; gathering information from faculty and staff to post and highlight; working with the SMART communication specialist and researchers to translate complex research findings for a general MIT audience and publishing articles at MIT; attending and participating in the meetings of the MIT Communication Group; assisting with the continuous development and implementation of a communication strategy for the MIT community; and assisting with planning and coordination of meetings and events. Will also schedule diverse and complex appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements; provide administrative support to the SMART MIT Office; and perform other duties as requested, including work normally performed by those at lower levels.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: at least three years' related experience; strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail and confidentiality; and proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint or similar software; and the ability to work in a team environment and to take direction from a supervisor and/or colleagues. Experience at MIT and/or working in an international program desirable; as is a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications and/or journalism.Job#11510-5
