Postdoctoral Associate



POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Haystack Observatory, to join a recognized world leader in Geodetic Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). Will perform research in cutting-edge geodetic VLBI instrumentation and techniques, collaborating with and contributing to the technical development and implementation of state-of-the-art VLBI geodesy systems and methodologies for processing, synthesizing, and applying VLBI geodetic data as part of a suite of terrestrial reference frame measurement techniques. Haystack Observatory is a laboratory within MIT whose mission is to carry out cutting edge research in the field of radio science through development and deployment of innovative new instrumentation. Among its current projects are next generation ionospheric radar systems, digital backend instrumentation for astronomical interferometric arrays, and flexible wideband radio receivers for Geodetic VLBI. Scientific studies include space weather and ionospheric studies, Very Long Baseline Interferometry observations for studies of the solid Earth, ultra-high resolution imaging of super massive black holes, low frequency imaging of the Sun, and detection of remnant radio signals from the early universe.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in electrical engineering or related field, with emphasis on RF engineering; a strong grounding in aspects of both analog and digital RF engineering and instrumentation that might range from feed design to correlation; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research results in the form of juried research journals articles and oral presentations; outstanding scientific research ability; excellent communication skills; and willingness to work as part of a team. Preferred areas of expertise include experience with VLBI techniques and methods and engineering of complex scientific instrumentation systems. Job #11868
