Chair of the Department of Computer Science

Old Dominion University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Computer Science in the College of Sciences. We seek an internationally recognized scholar with demonstrated excellence in administration, research and teaching, competitive research grant funding, and a strong commitment to educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in computer science or related discipline, will provide leadership to further enhance the Department's excellent research and educational programs and will have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students. The appointment will be at the rank of professor with tenure, with a competitive salary. We strongly encourage women and under-represented ethnic minorities to apply.
The Department of Computer Science has 15 tenured or tenure-track faculty and 7 lecturers. The faculty has research grant support from NSF , NIH , NASA , DoD, and other agencies and ranks in the top 25% in terms of R&D expenditures among Computer Science departments. The Department has established research strengths in big data, web science and digital libraries, bioinformatics, high-performance computing, medical image computing, and mobile and sensor networks. The Department has recently developed high-quality online B.S. and M.S. degree programs in Computer Science, and a successful online Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity. A vibrant graduate program includes 145 graduate students (45 Ph.D. and 100 M.S.) and complements the strong undergraduate program, which has more than 650 majors. Excellent collaborative research opportunities are available at nearby NASA Langley Research Center, Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, National Institute of Aeronautics, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and the Virginia Modeling Analysis and Simulation Center.
