DENTAL - DIVISION DIR. ADVANCED GENERAL DENTISTRY (FACULTY)

Job Description: The Division Director of Advanced General Dentistry is a faculty position in the School of Dental Medicine and is responsible for the administration and direction of residency programs within the Department of General Dentistry.

These programs include the General Practice Residency (GPR) program and the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program.

Responsibilities include the advanced training of residents in all facets of general dentistry, administration of the programs and program personnel, aiding program directors in the reporting requirements of the School of Dental Medicine, Vidant Hospital, Commission on Dental Accreditation, and other entities.

The Division Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department of General Dentistry and works closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Extramural Clinical Practices, and other administrators.

The director also provides direct patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings in Hospital Dentistry, Ross Hall, and the Community Service Learning Centers (CSLCs) as necessary.

The Division Director of Advanced General Dentistry oversees and coordinates activity of the GPR and AEGD programs including:

Monitoring recruitment and selection of residents in compliance with Match Program requirements,

Coordinating the implementation of the curriculum plans,

Coordinating ongoing evaluation of the programs, faculty and resident performance, and

Coordinating teaching in affiliated institutions and off-service rotations.

Fixed-term or tenure-track position at the title/rank of Assistant Professor or higher available.

Preferred Qualifications:

Commitment to evidence-based teaching and practice.

Experience in the business aspects of administration of a general dentistry residency program including grant writing, patient relations, staffing, and financial management.

Experience in community outreach activities.

Willingness to apply academic experiences of contemporary dental education and traditional educational values to the ECU School of Dental Medicine educational model.

Demonstrated record of increasing leadership responsibilities.

Experience with electronic record keeping, digital imaging, and resident evaluation.


Minimum Qualifications: DDS or DMD degree (or equivalent)

Certificate from a CODA-accredited General Practice Residency in Dentistry Program or Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program.

Experience teaching in an accredited GPR or AEGD program

Operating Room (OR) Experience

Eligible to be licensed in the State of North Carolina and upon assuming the position, licensed to practice dentistry in NC

Ability to be credentialed in the hospital and upon assuming the position, initiation of the credentialing process.

Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
