Job Description: East Carolina University invites applications for a Director of the University Studies Program. The Bachelor of Science in University Studies (BSUS) degree program is designed for students who seek an alternative to the traditional "majors" approach to successful degree completion. BSUS students develop their own rigorous integrated programs of study, individualized to meet their future career or advanced study needs. The program aims to remove barriers to academic success for its students, including (but not limited to) non-traditional students, partway home students (those who left school with substantial academic credit but no degree), active military, and veterans.

The Director of the Bachelor of Science in University Studies degree program provides leadership for the students, staff and faculty of the program; oversees its daily operations; markets the degree program throughout the institution and externally; supervises instructional and administrative support personnel; administers the program's gateway and capstone courses (UNIV 2000 and UNIV 4990), and teaches one or more sections; coordinates activities of the program's Faculty Oversight Committee (FOC) in collaboration with the Faculty Senate; engages proactively with constituent and stakeholder groups, particularly the FOC, the Workforce Advisory Committee (WAC), academic deans and directors, university administrators, and the campus-wide advising community; ensures that the program complies with all university standards and guidelines; oversees research and assessment; reports on student success to appropriate personnel; and serves on appropriate university committees, working groups and task forces as assigned. The Director reports to the Dean of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences in the Division of Academic Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must hold a terminal degree and meet qualifications for faculty status; have experience in a program of study that emphasizes or provides for individualized programs of study/self-designed majors as a pathway to degree completion; possess a working knowledge of curriculum and operational processes; have a history of successful collaboration and team-building with faculty and administration; possess outstanding organization and communication skills; be self-motivated; have an understanding of university policies and practices relating to academic programs, curriculum development, academic accountability and assessment practices; and be able to multitask, including the ability to handle multiple, often-times conflicting situations.
